Re: Sabotage

Wow, that's pretty rotten that someone would tamper with the computer like that. It disrupts the other students that are trying to get work done and disrupts the faculty when trying to find the root cause. It reminds me of when I was in school in CNC class using a Dyna lathe. Someone had crashed the...

Re: Aluminum stand with caster & leveling

Hello,

That's a really great idea. Best of both words- adjustable leveling and portability. Thanks!

Aluminum stand with caster & leveling

Hello, I'm trying to get final approval at work to purchase an Asteroid router. I'm thinking about stands and whether to have one with just leveling feet or one with casters. Re: Tool Change Overs

Hello,

Thanks for the confirmation on my thought process. I'm used to having to touch off with every tool change on my manual mill so not having the tool length sensor won't be a huge inconvenience to me. Maybe something I could look at down the road.

Re: Router choices for Asteroid for plastics and aluminum

Hi Hannah,

Thanks for the feedback on the 1617. It sounds like that's the one I'll go with. I'm just anxiously awaiting approval to purchase the machine.

Re: Tool Change Overs

OK, I think I understand how they both work. See if I'm thinking right 1. The spindle is sitting at some Z axis position 2. You insert the first tool and detect the offset using the tool length sensor. 3. This sets up a compensation value between the spindle and tip of the tool 4. You touch off on t...

Re: Tool Change Overs

Hello,

When would you use the automatic tool sensor and the touch off plate together?

Re: Tool Change Overs

Hello, I notice there is mention of using both the tool length sensor and touch off plate together. Are both really needed? I was thinking that if you have the touch off plate that would be all you need since you could put it on top of your work piece to zero the tool (and compensate for the touch o...
