Re: Please let me introduce myself!

Welcome aboard. I have an asteroid and love it. Started with a V90 and made most of my mistakes on it. Love the things you can do on these machines. Got into Acrylic engraving last year and am impressed with the visual effects.

Unity Fan issue

Yesterday the fan in my controller on my Asteroid took a dump. As you can see from the pics, it smoked and melted down. After researching the data from the tag on the fan I found some mysteries. I checked the voltage to fan in the controller is 33 vdc. The tag says it is a 24vdc motor and the part n...

Re: Holding down Plastic Sheet

I cut a few acrylic sheets and I use tape also. The tape works great, but you are right about the cost. Hold downs seem to create more waste and don't always hold evenly in the center of a sheet and when cutting only .013 for engraving it is critical. I think a vacuum table would be the best way to ...

Re: Table Grid

Thanks, I have several of the original inserts pulling up/out with very little pressure applied from the clamps. I had originally thought the inserts were threaded but soon found that they could not be screwed back down to be flush with the top of the mdf board. My board is untouched by bits since I...

Re: Table Grid

Can the tee nuts be installed in the same hole that a barbed insert has been removed/pulled out or do you have to start with a new spoil board and drill all new holes ?

Re: Considering the Asteroid

If you are cutting acrylic using a router as a spindle, a single flute end mill works fine with a speed setting on the Dewalt of 2. If you are engraving, level is very important since you will be cutting at depths of .01 or so. Don't use extruded acrylic if possible, it melts much easier than cast a...

Re: double sided tape

I use IPG tape and it works very well for cutting thinner materials like the 1/8" G10 and PCB's. For deep, fast cuts in thick wood I still use hold down clamps and thru cuts are held in place with tabs.
