Re: Joints Anyone

I came up with this rotary finger joint awhile back, but as I now have a student using it to connect a 1.25" diameter walnut dowel to an oak dowel of the same diameter for her coat rack design I thought I'd share it here.

Re: Y axis limit error

I'd check the wires connected to the Y limit switches. Those are mounted under the gantry side plates. They may have worked loose from the switch terminals. Anything that causes the limit circuit to open up will throw an error. On our Nebula the X axis switches (mounted on the ends of the gantry bea...

Re: Limit Switch Errors

If you've had your machine awhile, the best solution is to replace the switches. Limit 0 is the X axis and those switches are on the ends of the gantry beam. I oversee three Probotix CNCs and my students have a tendency to jog the Z axis to the top before homing the machines which eventually bends/f...

Looking good. If I drank coffee I'd be stealing your idea for myself.

Re: Mailbox Address Label

Looks like a great use for cutting board blanks to me. I'll be curious to know how well they look after a few years outside. You might look into the temperature expansion/compression values of what is likely HDPE relative to the same values for the metal mailbox. Just thinking of the future.... 4D

Re: Joints Anyone

Thanks Hannah. After helping several students cutting mitered corner joints for a box project I woke up the following day thinking it was a shame to have essentially thrown away the mitered waste to leave a weak joint. This joint still cuts away exactly the same amount of the 45 degree end but leave...

Internal Mortise & Tenon for mitered box corners. The boards were mounted at 45 degrees on my angle jig. The same toolpath file was cut on each side. Invisible when assembled. Clamping when gluing up is easy. 4D https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yAN_yW9GbKY/WyErGr-L7pI/AAAAAAAACvY/5fXIspVhWvUW8f1ZCPHaT...

Re: Jog pendant? Purpose?

END on the keyboard followed with ENTER will effectively touch off (zero) the active axis (last direction you jogged or hit on the keyboard (x,y,z)). You can also switch quickly between Continuous and the last Increment jog step you've chosen by hitting C and I respectively. A list of all the keyboa...

Re: Alignment issue observed when cutting spoil board

Old post, but I'll chip in anyway. We have a Meteor where I work that produced similar lines when milling off the spoilboard with a 1" end mill. A quick check of the Z axis against the perimeter frame showed Z was tipped back about 2 degrees. To fix this we took out the front bolts holding the ...
