Re: hello

I have had my Asteroid for a month or so now (replaced my V90) and I am so impressed with the difference. I love the asteroid and I think you will be happy with your choice.

Re: Clamps/hold down system

I moved up to the Asteroid from my V90 and also used mostly tape to hold small projects. When I got the Asteroid I built the hold downs from 1/2" MDF and they work very well, but you have to be careful about using too much muscle to tighten them. The adjustable leg for allowing use on different...

Re: Dust Collection

I have the probotix dust boot and got the hose with it to connect to my dust deputy from probotix with my Asteroid. The hose is from Performax and is a 1-7/8" x 8' with 1-1/4" adapter. The performax part number is 240-4805 and the hose is sold by Menards. The hose fits very tightly on the ...

Re: Considering the Asteroid

When I got my Asteroid I was talking to Len at Probotix and he said 3 in 1 or a PTFE dry lube works very well.

Re: Considering the Asteroid

I recently received my Asteroid and am very happy with it. I had a V90 that I used for 3 years, but needed something bigger and more rigid. This machine is all of that. The Linuxcnc is quite easy to use and should be no problem to pick up on. Have you done cnc work before? If not, like Pete said the...

Re: USB ports

I use a wireless keyboard and mouse which frees up one usb port and allows me to move around with the mouse/keyboard if I have to. I don't have to move things around as much now that the machine comes with the joysticks.

Re: Dust Collection

I have the Probotix dust boot on my asteroid, hooked to the dust deputy I had on my V90. It works great and as Pete said, is easily removed for setting the z axis. You can't see the work as well as if there wasn't anything on for dust collection, but from the top you can see some.

Re: WOO-HOO! It's Here!

Glad that fixed your problem. I was in such a hurry to get the machine up and running that I overlooked the joystick since I was upgrading from a v90 with no joystick and it worked fine without it. I spent an hour or so and was just about to call it quits and talk to Probotix the next day.
