Re: Confused

Ok, so here is what is happening. I set my workpiece in position based on my offset defined by g55. I home the machine, then move my bit to the surface and set the Z axis. The following program is a test to cut a simple 4mm deep slot, but the final depth comes out to about 1.88mm. I'm stumped. When ...

Re: Confused

Hi Dave,
Don't have the code in front of me, and I remember looking for G54, but not the G53, which might be there. Can't I just remove that line, or follow it with my G55 to stay with my coordinates?

Re: Confused

Hi Hanna, Thanks for that explanation about the difference. I've been basically doing similar, except I zero to the top of my material because the thickness of my mdf varies slightly and slots that I'm making are more important for the depth from the top surface. But good to know that either button ...

Confused

I have a new Asteroid and tried to look up the manual of the linuxcnc on line, but none of the versions show the same screen that I have on my system. For one thing, there is no "touch off" button. Instead there are radio buttons for x,y,and z and a button that says "set axis" be...

Re: New to the CNC World

Some additional info - In this diagram are the Vacuum table, a spoilboard and the finished part. The rationale - Don't want to cut into the vacuum table, so I make a separate Spoilboard that can take any cuts. The Spoilboard also has the same kind of rubber seal and through holes to match the vacuum...

Re: New to the CNC World

Hi Dave,
I'm using a JB Platnum 2 stage 1/2 hp vacuum pump model DV-200N-250 Has 7 CFM flow and can pull about 25 microns.
Cost around $400 but have seen some on ebay for about half the price. Some people have even used a shop vac with
good success.

Re: New to the CNC World

Hi Dave, I used 3/4 mdf as the base and glued 1/4 strips around the perimeter and centers to divide into 4 chambers. Then I brushed shellac over the inside to seal the porous mdf. Next I glued on top another 3/4 mdf that I surface cut and ran a program to cut the holes and channels. I prested into t...
