Aluminum & the V90

Postby ROnBE » Wed Sep 02, 2015 1:36 pm

Has anyone used a V90 to cut aluminum? I would like to make small piece parts from aluminum alloys but don't know if the V90 can handle the stresses compared to working with wood and plastic.
Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ron

Hey Ron

I've never cut any metal on my V90, except copper clad.

I would be afraid to try it with anything other than extremely thin material, but others may differ from experience. Sorry that I couldn't help more.

Thanks for the reply, Eric.

I have come to the conclusion that the V90 with the mdf construction just isn't strong enough.

I cut aluminum on my V90. Up to 1/4" successfully

Main considerations:
Good tight machine
Correct bit
speeds and feeds critical
air and lube
about .015/pass
speed control (Super PID)

Thanks for the information. The use of cutting fluids is one thing that is making me question using a machine with mdf components.
