Recessed work area for more Z height.

Postby o2photo » Fri Feb 03, 2017 3:13 pm

A friend of mine who went in on this machine with me had a need for more Z for one of his projects. Plenty below the board, so we came up with a port with pin height adjustable base. We are going to just use wedges to hold the work. Turned out great! Hope this helps someone.

Clever idea. Well done. Just a bit of advice when cutting at the bottom extent of the Z travel: There is more potential that the bit will deflect. I used my meteor to cut a hole in the original table top I had it on. The cut went fine until the bit turned a corner and started going toward the back of the table. As the gantry pulled back my bit jumped enough to leave an ugly edge in what should have been a clean cut hole.

I wanted to report back with the adaptation in use. Here is his first project. This has vastly increased the capability of the machine. And I continue to be impressed with the rock solid reliability of the OS/Control Software. I can't remember the last time the CPU was off, and it's always ready to go for hours and hours. No aborted/stalled cuts yet!
